A "deplorable" Grande Prairie man who posted sexually explicit photos of his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend on a website out of revenge earned a one-year jail term yesterday.
Bradley Edmond Brinacomb, 30, was also placed on two years of probation following his release after pleading guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography.
Brinacomb also earned the judge's disdain when he used his opportunity to speak in court to admit he had "definitely" done it and laughed as he explained he had obviously chosen the wrong girl to have a relationship with.
"It is deplorable, a complete lack of chivalry and a complete lack of understanding that a young woman would want to have her sexual integrity kept private, not broadcast to the general public," said Court of Queen's Bench Justice Sterling Sanderman.
The judge also slammed Brinacomb for being immature by angrily seeking revenge against his young girlfriend for going to police after he allegedly assaulted her.
"It is a lashing out, an 'I'm going to get you,' " he said. "For a person of 30 years of age, it is disturbing."
According to agreed facts, Brinacomb and the victim, who is now 20 and cannot be identified, began living together in 2006 and had an on-again-off-again relationship until the time of the Feb. 10, 2007, offence.
The pair got together the night before to watch a movie at Brinacomb's Grande Prairie home, but she left after an argument and called police about the altercation.
Brinacomb, a computer technician, then accessed the victim's MSN MySpace Internet account as he had her password. He then posted explicit photos of them engaged in sexual activity during the early part of their relationship.
Court heard Brinacomb's face was blurred out so he could not be identified, although you could see his tattoo on his back, and the victim's face was clearly visible.
Brinacomb forwarded the photos to all the people on the victim's MSN mailing list, which included her friends and family and even her elderly grandmother, and then changed her password so she could not delete the images.
A friend of the victim e-mailed her to ask about the photos and received an anonymous reply from Brinacomb saying it had been done because she "deserved it."
In another online conversation, Brinacomb alluded to the victim trying to have the police arrest him and said he had posted the images "to ruin her life too."
Brinacomb, who has recently been living in Victoria, B.C., admitted sending a link to the photos to about 50 people.
Brinacomb has already served the equivalent of 11 months in pretrial custody, so he has 30 days left to serve.
While on probation, Brinacomb was ordered to be assessed to see if he needs anger management counselling and was forbidden from contacting the victim.
He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample for the national DNA databank and be placed on the sex offender registry for 20 years.
