Di Cocco supports plant closures
By CATHY DOBSON The Observer Local News - Monday, June 25, 2007 Updated @ 11:16:09 PM
Sarnia-Lambton MPP Caroline Di Cocco says she backs Premier Dalton McGuinty’s pledge to close coal-fired plants by 2014 — with two exceptions.
“If we have a proven technique to burn coal cleanly, then they should stay open,” Di Cocco told The Observer.
If no such technology exists, then the Lambton Generating Station should be adapted to generate electricity using a process that’s friendlier to the environment, she said.
“If coal can’t be burned clean, we need to reuse the Lambton Generating Station infrastructure already there,” Di Cocco said.
But she did not have any suggestions about what kind of energy generation that might be.
At McGuinty’s direction, Ministry of Environment staff are drafting regulations to close the province’s coal-burning plants within seven years.
A ministry spokesperson confirmed to The Observer that once the regulations are developed and approved by the minister of environment, they become part of existing legislation without going to the House for discussion.

Caroline DiCocco is a 'yes man'. She supports everything that her not-so-humble provincial leader endeavors to do. I don't believe that Mrs. DiCocco has ever voted against her party. And, if I'm not mistaken, she allowed her party to walk all over her when she was introducing her transparency bill -- a bill that is now dead. Of course, Mrs. DiCocco did get appointed to a Cabinet position as a reward for turning her back on her constituents. Way to go, Caroline. You'll get my vote next election for sure.
